# Conversion Rate

The share of visitors who act, and how to measure it

Conversion rate is the share of visitors who take the action a page is built for, such as calling, sending a form or booking, worked out as conversions divided by visitors, times 100. On a local business website it is usually counted as leads per visit, and it means most when it is broken down by page and by where the traffic came from.

## How do you measure conversion rate?

Count the actions that matter and divide by the visits that could have produced them, over the same period. In practice that means setting up conversion tracking for calls from the site, form submissions and bookings, then reading the rate page by page and channel by channel.

1. **Define the conversion.** A call from the site, a submitted form or a completed booking, not a page view or a click on a menu.
2. **Track it.** Set each one up as a key event in your analytics, and test it once by doing it yourself.
3. **Split it.** Read the rate for each page and each source: search, ads, the map listing, email.
4. **Compare like with like.** A booking page and a blog post should never share one average.

## Why does conversion rate matter for a med spa?

Because the same ad budget can produce twice the bookings if the page converts twice as well. A clinic paying for every click on a treatment ad gets the most from that spend by making the page the ad lands on easy to book from on a phone.

For example, a clinic sends treatment ads to its home page, where a visitor has to find the treatment, then find the booking link, then pick a provider. Sending the same ads to the treatment's own page, with what the treatment involves, a few answers about recovery and a booking button at the top, removes three steps between the click and the booking. The clicks cost the same either way.
