# Core Web Vitals

Google's three page experience measures, and their thresholds

Core Web Vitals are three measures Google uses for a page's real-world experience: Largest Contentful Paint for loading, Interaction to Next Paint for responsiveness, and Cumulative Layout Shift for visual stability. A page passes when, at the 75th percentile of visits, LCP is 2.5 seconds or less, INP 200 milliseconds or less and CLS 0.1 or less.

## What do the three Core Web Vitals measure?

- **Largest Contentful Paint (LCP).** How long the largest image or text block takes to appear. Good is 2.5 seconds or less.
- **Interaction to Next Paint (INP).** How quickly the page responds when someone taps or clicks. Good is 200 milliseconds or less.
- **Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS).** How much the layout jumps while the page loads. Good is 0.1 or less.

The thresholds and the 75th percentile rule, measured separately on mobile and desktop, are from Google's [web.dev guide to Web Vitals](https://web.dev/articles/vitals). Google explains how Search uses them in its [Core Web Vitals documentation](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/core-web-vitals).

## Why do Core Web Vitals matter for a med spa?

Many people book treatments from a phone, often from an ad or a map listing, and they leave a slow or jumpy page. A booking page that takes several seconds to show its main image, or moves the "Book now" button as it loads, loses visits that cost money to win.

For example, a clinic's treatment page loads a large uncompressed photo at the top and a booking widget that pushes the page down when it appears. On a phone, the LCP runs past 2.5 seconds and the layout shifts as the visitor goes to tap. Compressing the image, reserving space for the widget and loading it after the main content fixes both.

## How do you check your Core Web Vitals?

1. **Open the Core Web Vitals report.** Search Console groups your pages by status, from real visits, on mobile and desktop.
2. **Test one page in PageSpeed Insights.** It shows field data where Google has it and a lab test with specific fixes.
3. **Fix the template, not the page.** Pages built from one template share their problems, so one fix often moves many URLs.
