# Charlotte Web Design, Website Development and SEO

Plus AI search and Google Ads on both sides of the state line

Kihan Marketing is a digital marketing agency. For businesses in Charlotte and its suburbs in both Carolinas, we handle SEO, local search, web design and development, Google and Meta Ads, AI search and social media. We specialize in med spas and healthcare practices.

A Charlotte customer might be searching from Huntersville, from Matthews or from across the state line in Fort Mill. We help your business show up in each of those searches, on Google and in AI answers, and every account stays in your name.

## SEO services for Charlotte businesses

We handle [SEO](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/seo/) for Charlotte businesses: technical SEO, schema markup, content and link building. Much of the work is pages, one for each service and one for each town you serve. Around Charlotte that list can cross the state line, from Huntersville in North Carolina to Fort Mill in South Carolina, and each town page is written about that town.

Six in ten Charlotte residents were born outside North Carolina. In Census surveys, about one in thirteen had lived in another county, state or country a year earlier. People new to an area may have fewer neighbors to ask, so search results and reviews can stand in for a recommendation.

- Technical SEO and site audits
- Schema markup
- Content that answers real questions
- Link building
- Pages for each community you serve
- Search Console set up in your name

## Website design and development in Charlotte

We design and build [websites](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/web-development/) on WordPress or Next.js, and custom code where a site needs it, choosing the platform by how much the site needs to grow. We also redesign existing sites, speed up slow ones and keep them maintained.

For [ADA compliance](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/web-development/#ada-compliance), we check a site against version 2.2 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) at level AA. We fix each problem we find, then check the page again with a keyboard and a screen reader. That is technical work, not legal advice.

North Carolina's breach notice law covers a person's name stored together with a number such as a Social Security, driver's license, bank account or card number. If unencrypted records like that are stolen, and misuse is likely or people face a real risk of harm, the business that owns or licenses them must tell the people affected without unreasonable delay. It must also tell the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General's Office. A form that never asks for those numbers cannot leak them, and keeping the site's software up to date lowers the risk too.

- New websites and redesigns
- WordPress development
- Next.js, React and custom code
- ADA compliance (WCAG 2.2 AA)
- Speed work and maintenance

## AI search, ads, local and social in Charlotte

### AI search

We work to get your business named in Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. That work is called answer engine optimization (AEO) or generative engine optimization (GEO).

Customers ask assistants specific things, and your pages should answer them outright. Do you cover Rock Hill, across the state line? Are you licensed in South Carolina as well as North Carolina? Sound SEO is all Google asks of a site for its AI features, so we write those answers as ordinary text and keep your Business Profile details current.

### Google and Meta Ads

We run pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns on [Google Ads](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/paid-ads/), and paid social on Facebook and Instagram. We can build TikTok and LinkedIn campaigns when they fit.

Fort Mill and Rock Hill are in South Carolina, so a Charlotte campaign can cross into a second state. We give each state its own campaign, so the budget, the ad text and the license details can differ. Left on its default, Google Ads also targets people who seem interested in a location, even if they are far from it. We change that for a local service, so the South Carolina campaign reaches people who are in York County or there regularly.

### Local SEO

We handle [local SEO](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/local-seo/) and the Google Business Profile itself: categories, services, hours, photos and a weekly review process.

Google allows one profile per real location, and a virtual office does not count. A Charlotte roofer who also works in Rock Hill lists it as a service area instead of renting a South Carolina mailbox for a second profile. Google caps a profile at 20 service areas and says the whole area should stay within about two hours' drive of where the business is based.

### Social media

We run [social media](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/social-media/) for Charlotte businesses and time the posts to local dates. Those include the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend and the ACC football championship in early December.

Posts and ads use the graphics from our [brand design](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/brand-design/) work: logo, identity, guidelines and templates, so customers recognize the business wherever they meet it.

## How the Charlotte region splits local search

Local search around Charlotte splits by state line, by county and by the separate towns and cities that ring the city. Mecklenburg County sits at the center, with Cabarrus and Union counties beside it in North Carolina and York County across the state line in South Carolina. When Google ranks local results, it looks at how close each business is to the searcher, so a listing near downtown Charlotte can miss a customer searching from Rock Hill.

1. **The state line runs through the market.** Fort Mill, in York County, South Carolina, is about 20 miles from downtown Charlotte. From 2024 to 2025 it was the metro’s fastest-growing city of 20,000 or more, by percentage, while Charlotte ranked seventh. Rock Hill, also in York County, has about 76,000 residents.
2. **Mecklenburg is more than Charlotte.** Besides Charlotte, the county includes the towns of Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson to the north, Mint Hill and Matthews to the east and southeast, and Pineville to the south. Huntersville alone has more than 68,000 residents, enough for a page of its own.
3. **The neighboring counties have cities of their own.** Concord, in Cabarrus County, has about 115,000 residents and shares the metro's official name, Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia. Monroe, in Union County, has about 43,000. Neither is part of Charlotte, so each needs its own page rather than a passing mention on a Charlotte one.

### Charlotte in numbers

- **964,784** Charlotte residents in July 2025, which makes it the 14th largest city in the US
- **20,731** people Charlotte added from 2024 to 2025, more than any other US city
- **11** counties in the Charlotte metro: eight in North Carolina and three in South Carolina
- **8.5%** of metro jobs are in business and financial operations, against 6.8% nationally

## Med spas, roofing, property management and real estate in Charlotte

Charlotte clinics compete with a hospital system run from the city. Roofers can plan around Mecklenburg County’s storm months, which NOAA’s records show. All four industries below also work under North Carolina rules worth building into the site.

### Med spa and healthcare SEO

We build SEO, Google Ads and booking pages for Charlotte med spas around the North Carolina Medical Board’s positions on patient photos and laser exams.

The North Carolina Medical Board treats deceptive, false or misleading advertising as unprofessional conduct. Its advertising position, amended in July 2026, says patient photos should show the licensee’s own patients and realistic outcomes, and that false testimonials should not be posted.

The Board also counts laser treatment that alters tissue as surgery. Its position is that a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner should examine each patient before a first laser hair or tattoo removal treatment. A booking page for those treatments can start with that exam.

Advocate Health, formed when Atrium Health and Advocate Aurora Health came together, has its home in Charlotte. It lists 69 hospitals in eight states. An independent clinic cannot compete on size, so its pages should lead with the treatments it offers and the town it is in.

- NC Medical Board: Position statement 8.3.1
- Also: Laser surgery position, 5.1.2
- Services: Med spa SEO, Google Ads, booking pages

### Roofing

Storm months set the schedule for the roofing SEO, storm pages and Google Ads we run for Charlotte roofers: live by March and kept up through October. NOAA’s Storm Events Database logged 34 hail reports in Mecklenburg County from 2016 through 2025, all between March and September. It also logged 110 thunderstorm wind reports, half of them in July and August. Storm damage pages belong online by March.

The database lists four tropical storm events in the county in those years, all in late September or October. When Helene’s winds reached the county on September 27, 2024, the database recorded hundreds of trees down, dozens of them on homes, vehicles and power lines. So storm pages should stay live through October.

North Carolina has no separate roofing board. Once a job’s cost reaches the threshold in G.S. 87-1, the roofer needs a license from the Licensing Board for General Contractors. S(Roofing) is the Board’s roofing classification. Its building license covers roofing too, and its residential license covers roofing on homes. Smaller jobs need no Board license, so a roofer who holds one has something worth showing on the site.

- NC rule: 21 NCAC 12A .0202, S(Roofing)
- Storm months: 2016 to 2025: hail March to September, tropical storms into October
- Services: Roofing SEO, storm pages, Google Ads

### Property management

For Charlotte property managers, we build websites that explain North Carolina’s deposit rules plainly and note that the city sets no rent cap of its own. North Carolina law bars cities and counties from regulating the rent on privately owned rental property, except where they subsidize or fund it. So a Charlotte manager’s site has no local rent cap to explain, unless the property gets city or county funding.

State law caps a security deposit at two months’ rent for a lease longer than month to month, such as a one-year lease. After the tenancy ends and the tenant hands back the unit, the landlord has 30 days to send an itemized accounting with any deposit still owed. If the landlord cannot yet work out the full damage claim by then, an interim accounting is due at 30 days and a final one at 60. Renters look these rules up, so a manager’s site should explain them plainly.

- NC rule: G.S. 42-14.1, no local rent control
- Deposits: G.S. 42-51 and 42-52
- Our build: Property manager’s website

### Real estate

For Charlotte brokerages we build listing pages, town guides, social posts and paid ads, each carrying the firm name North Carolina’s Real Estate Commission requires. In North Carolina a broker needs written consent from the owner, or the owner’s authorized agent, before advertising a property. The Real Estate Commission also requires every broker’s ad to include the name of the broker’s firm, and it bars ads that look as if the owner placed them.

Town guides cover places such as Huntersville, Cornelius and Matthews, and the firm name goes on every ad, however short.

- NC rule: 21 NCAC 58A .0105
- Our client: Real estate agency, Sint Maarten
- Result: Clicks 1,545 to 2,478, July to September 2026 against 2025

## How to choose the best digital marketing agency in Charlotte

These five questions will test any agency you might hire for SEO, websites or ads, and they will test us too. A plan made for Charlotte should already account for the state line and the towns around the city.

1. **Ask whose name goes on each account.** Your business, not the agency, should be the owner of record on the domain, the Business Profile, the ad account and analytics.
2. **Test them on a North Carolina rule.** An agency for med spas should know the Medical Board’s position on patient photos, and one for brokerages should know what rule 58A .0105 requires in every ad.
3. **Ask how they would handle the state line.** If you serve Fort Mill or Rock Hill, the plan should say how the South Carolina side gets its own targeting and service areas.
4. **Ask where the first pages would go.** Expect named towns, like Huntersville, Matthews or Concord, rather than the whole metro at once.
5. **Ask what the agreement covers and how either side ends it.** Both answers belong in writing.

## Your Charlotte questions, answered

### Do you have an office in Charlotte?

No. We work remotely, and everything we do happens inside accounts in your name: your website, Search Console, Business Profile and Google Ads, where you can see every change.

### Do you also work in Fort Mill, Rock Hill and the rest of the region?

Yes. Each town you pick, from Concord to Rock Hill, gets its own page, and your Business Profile can list it as a service area. Ads for the South Carolina side run as a separate campaign from the North Carolina side.

### Do you test and fix Charlotte websites for ADA compliance?

Yes. We test against WCAG 2.2 at level AA, first with automated tools and then by keyboard and screen reader, and we fix what fails. Common problems are text with too little contrast, images without descriptions, headings out of order, unlabeled form fields, a confusing focus order and videos without captions. We never install overlay widgets. It is technical work, not legal advice, and it cannot guarantee a site against lawsuits.

### What are AEO and GEO?

Answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization. Both names describe one job: getting your business into the answers that ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews give. Someone might ask which med spas are near Huntersville, or which roofers work in Concord. The groundwork is plain pages that answer those questions and a Business Profile with current details.

### Does a Charlotte roofer need a state license?

Only for jobs whose cost reaches the threshold in G.S. 87-1. Those jobs need a license from the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors. An S(Roofing) license covers them. So does the Board’s building license, and its residential license covers roofing on homes. Board rules also require the license number on all contracts and bids.

### Is Google Ads or SEO the right first step for a Charlotte business?

In most cases, both. Ads can reach searchers in Huntersville or Rock Hill within weeks, while a new page for each town takes months to rank. The ads also reveal which towns and searches produce customers, so the pages for those towns are written first.
