# Cleveland Web Design, Website Development and SEO

Plus AI search and Google Ads for both sides of the Cuyahoga River

Kihan Marketing is a digital marketing agency for businesses across Greater Cleveland, from Lakewood and Parma to Mentor and Medina. We offer SEO, web design and development, AI search, Google and Meta Ads, local SEO and social media. Med spas and healthcare practices are a specialty.

The Cuyahoga River splits Cleveland into an east side and a west side, and local search splits with it. We get your business found on Google and named in AI answers on the side you serve, or both, working remotely in accounts you own.

## SEO services for Cleveland businesses

The City of Cleveland’s neighborhood map shows 34 neighborhoods, among them Ohio City, Tremont and Detroit Shoreway. Past the city line come suburbs such as Lakewood, Parma and Mentor. Our [SEO](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/seo/) work gives each service you offer, and each place you serve, a page of its own. We also run the technical SEO, schema markup, content and link building behind those pages.

- Technical SEO and site audits
- Schema markup
- Content that answers real questions
- Link building
- Pages for each community you serve
- Search Console set up in your name

## Website design and development in Cleveland

We design and build [websites](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/web-development/) on WordPress or Next.js, with custom code where a site needs it, and we take on redesigns, speed work and maintenance. We plan a Greater Cleveland site so it can grow from suburb pages on both sides of the river to township pages in Geauga or Medina County.

Our [ADA compliance](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/web-development/#ada-compliance) work tests a site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, with automated checks, a keyboard and a screen reader. Whatever fails, from low contrast and missing image descriptions to unlabeled form fields, we fix and test again. We use no overlay widgets. This is technical work, not legal advice.

- New websites and redesigns
- WordPress development
- Next.js, React and custom code
- ADA compliance (WCAG 2.2 AA)
- Speed work and maintenance

## AI search, ads, local and social in Cleveland

### AI search

We work to get your business named in Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. That work is called answer engine optimization (AEO) or generative engine optimization (GEO).

Google says a page needs no special markup to appear in AI Overviews, only to be indexed and eligible for a snippet. It also advises keeping your Business Profile up to date. So our pages answer, in lines an assistant can repeat, what Greater Cleveland customers ask. Do you work on the east side or the west side? Do you cover Bainbridge and Chester townships, or only Chardon? Is this rental lead-safe certified?

### Google and Meta Ads

We run pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns on [Google Ads](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/paid-ads/), and paid social on Facebook and Instagram. We can build TikTok and LinkedIn campaigns when they fit.

Cleveland sits on the southern shore of Lake Erie, so a radius drawn around downtown falls partly on the lake. We target cities and counties instead. Lorain County to the west and Medina County to the south do not touch Lake or Geauga County to the east, so a west-side business and an east-side business rarely need the same map. Google’s default location option also reaches people who have only shown interest in an area. For a Parma or Mentor roofer we choose the Presence option instead, which reaches only people in or regularly in the places the campaign targets.

### Local SEO

We handle [local SEO](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/local-seo/) and the Google Business Profile itself: categories, services, hours, photos and a weekly review process.

A Westlake company that also works in Solon can add Solon as one of up to 20 service areas. Google will not give it a second profile at an east-side virtual office, and Solon cannot go into the business name.

Lake-effect snow tests a profile too. Over five days starting on Thanksgiving Day 2024, two to five feet of snow fell across the snowbelt of Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania, and parts of Interstate 90 were shut. Up to six days closed by snow means special hours on the profile. A week or more means marking it temporarily closed.

### Social media

Our [social media](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/social-media/) calendar follows the Northeast Ohio year. The Great Big Home + Garden Show opens at the I-X Center in late January, a natural moment for home and garden businesses. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade follows in March. The Geauga County Maple Festival takes place on Chardon Square on the last full weekend of April. The Cleveland National Air Show flies from Burke Lakefront Airport over Labor Day weekend.

Our [brand design](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/brand-design/) work gives your business one look, from the logo, identity and guidelines to the graphics on each post and ad, so a Maple Festival post matches your website.

## How Greater Cleveland splits local search

Search around Cleveland splits east and west at the Cuyahoga River, then again between Cuyahoga County’s cities and the townships farther out. The Census Bureau’s metro takes in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lake, Medina, Geauga and Ashtabula counties, with Lake Erie closing it off to the north.

1. **The river splits east from west.** West of the river lie Lakewood, Rocky River, Westlake and Parma; east of it, Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, Beachwood and Solon. Westlake, on the west side, and Mentor, out in Lake County, are about 35 miles apart in a straight line, and Google’s local results weigh the distance to the person searching. A business on one side rarely shows on the other just because both say Cleveland.
2. **Cities in Cuyahoga, townships beyond it.** Nearly everyone in Cuyahoga County lives in a city or village. In Geauga County, about 86 percent of residents live in townships such as Bainbridge, Chester and Russell instead. In Medina County about half do, in places like Montville and Hinckley. Service areas and pages built only from city names miss them.
3. **Say which Cleveland.** Cleveland, Tennessee is a metro area of its own, and four other Lakewoods in the US are larger than Lakewood, Ohio. Type "roofer lakewood" and Google suggests Ohio, New Jersey, Colorado and more. So page titles and service areas name the state as well as the suburb.

### Greater Cleveland in numbers

- **2.17M** people across the six counties of the Census Bureau’s Cleveland metro in 2025
- **57** cities and villages in Cuyahoga County alone: 38 cities and 19 villages
- **114 in.** of snow in an average year at Chardon in Geauga County, against about 44 inches near Elyria
- **49%** of the City of Cleveland’s homes date from 1939 or earlier, against 22% metro-wide

## Med spa, roofing, rental and real estate marketing in Cleveland

Ohio’s nursing board guideline and the state’s insurance law shape what med spas and roofers can say online. Cleveland registers contractors and rentals, and Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights inspect homes before a sale.

### Med spa and healthcare SEO

Against Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals, the SEO, Google Ads and booking page we build lets a Cleveland med spa compete on detail.

The guideline says a nurse’s scope of practice can include cosmetic injections when set conditions are met, among them a medical evaluation and a documented, valid order from a licensed provider skilled in cosmetic procedures. It also warns that salons, non-medical spas, malls and private homes may not be equipped to handle complications. So our pages name the clinic where treatment happens, and we leave out promotions for injection parties at home.

By Crain’s count, Cleveland Clinic had 51,351 full-time-equivalent employees in Cuyahoga County in mid-2024 and University Hospitals 25,936. A Westlake or Beachwood practice cannot match that, so we give it one page per treatment, naming who performs it.

- Ohio guideline: Board of Nursing, cosmetic injections
- Based on: ORC 4723.01(B) and (F)
- Services: Med spa SEO, Google Ads, booking pages

### Roofing

For a Cleveland roofer we set up storm pages, roofing SEO and Google Ads, show the City registration, and keep every ad clear of claim handling. Just before midnight on August 24, 2023, an EF1 tornado crossed Cleveland’s east side and badly damaged the roof of Calvary Church. The National Weather Service called it the first tornado inside city limits since 1992. Storm-repair pages belong on a roofer’s site well before the next warning.

Ohio law counts anyone who advertises as an adjuster of property insurance claims as a public insurance adjuster, and acting as one takes a state certificate of authority. A licensed public adjuster, in turn, may not be paid to repair property whose damage an insurance policy covers. So a roofer’s ads should offer the inspection and the new roof, and stop short of "we handle your claim."

A contractor must be registered with the City of Cleveland in its trade to pull a permit there, and the City tells homeowners to check that theirs is. A registered roofer should say so on its site.

- Ohio rules: ORC 3951.01, 3951.02; OAC 3901-1-24
- Cleveland rule: Contractors register to pull permits
- Services: Roofing SEO, storm pages, Google Ads

### Property management

A Cleveland property manager’s website from us shows each pre-1978 unit’s lead-safe certificate on the listing, before a tenant has to ask. Owners of Cleveland homes they do not live in must register them every year, and before tenants move in. Each registration names a Local Agent in Charge. An owner who is a person living nearby can be their own agent, but the City’s ordinance requires the agent to be a person, so a company that owns rentals names someone.

Rental units built before 1978 need a lead-safe certificate or an exemption. Tenants can look up any address on the City’s open data portal, so a listing that shows the certificate answers the question first.

- Cleveland rule: Rental registration every year
- Also: Lead-safe certificate for pre-1978 units
- Our build: Property manager’s website

### Real estate

For Cleveland agents we write seller guides, listing pages and social ads, with a separate guide for each suburb that inspects homes before a sale. Cleveland Heights requires a Certificate of Inspection before an owner agrees to sell, and the buyer gets a copy before signing. Shaker Heights has sellers apply for an inspection before contracting with a buyer. Google’s own suggestions for "point of sale inspection" include both suburbs, so each deserves its own seller guide.

- Services: Seller guides, listing pages, social ads
- Suburb rule: Point-of-sale inspections
- Our client: Real estate agency, Sint Maarten

## How to choose the best digital marketing agency in Cleveland

Put these five questions to anyone you might hire for SEO, a website or ads, us included. Listen for suburb names, township names and Ohio rules in the answers.

1. **Ask who keeps the logins if you leave.** The logins for Google Ads, the Business Profile, analytics and the domain should sit with your business from day one.
2. **Ask an Ohio or Cleveland question.** A roofing agency should know why "we handle your claim" is risky wording in Ohio. A property management agency should know when a Cleveland landlord needs a Local Agent in Charge.
3. **Ask which side of the river comes first.** Be wary of "we cover all of Northeast Ohio." A good answer starts with a few named suburbs, such as Lakewood and Westlake or Beachwood and Solon.
4. **Ask how the ads are aimed.** A radius around downtown Cleveland lands partly on Lake Erie, so a good answer names the cities or counties the campaign will cover instead.
5. **Look for reviews with details.** Five stars tell you little. The reviews worth reading describe a specific job and what changed for the business after it.

## Your Cleveland questions, answered

### Do you have an office in Cleveland?

No. We work remotely, and every account stays in your name: Google Ads, the Business Profile, Search Console and the site. Every change is visible to you.

### Do you work with businesses on both the east side and the west side?

Yes. A business in Lakewood or Westlake and one in Beachwood or Solon compete in different local results, because Google weighs how far a business is from the person searching. Pages, service areas and ad targeting follow the side of the river and the suburbs you actually serve.

### Do you offer ADA compliance work for Cleveland websites?

Yes, as technical work. First come automated checks against WCAG 2.2 at level AA, then a pass through the site with only a keyboard and another with a screen reader. We repair what fails, from color contrast and image descriptions to headings, form labels, focus order and captions, and check the fixes. We add no overlay widgets. It is not legal advice, and it cannot guarantee that no one will sue.

### What are AEO and GEO?

AEO is answer engine optimization and GEO is generative engine optimization. Both mean working to have ChatGPT, Perplexity or a Google AI Overview name your business when it answers a question. A homeowner in Bainbridge Township might ask which roofers work in Geauga County. A page that names the townships you serve gives the assistant an answer to quote.

### Does a Cleveland landlord need a Local Agent in Charge?

Every yearly registration names one. An owner who is a person living in Cuyahoga County or one of the six counties that border it (Lorain, Medina, Summit, Portage, Geauga and Lake) can be their own agent. Owners who live farther away must name someone else, and so must companies, because the City’s ordinance requires the agent to be a person. The agent is named with a notarized affidavit and can be held responsible for code problems when the owner does not act. Treat this as a summary, not legal advice.

### When does snow season start to matter for a Cleveland business?

By November. At Cleveland Hopkins Airport, average snowfall climbs from about 4.5 inches in November to 12 in December and 18 in January, and stays above 10 inches a month through March. Snow removal, roof and ice dam pages, and the ads behind them, should be live by late October.
