# St. Louis Web Design, Website Development and SEO

Plus AI search and Google Ads for the City, the County and Illinois

Kihan Marketing is a digital marketing agency for businesses across the St. Louis metro, on both sides of the Mississippi. Our services are SEO, website design and development, AI search, Google and Meta Ads, local SEO and social media. Med spas and healthcare practices are a specialty.

In St. Louis, the City and the County are different places, and your customers know which one they live in. We get your business found by customers in the places you serve, on Google and in AI answers, and we work remotely inside accounts you own.

## SEO services for St. Louis businesses

Our [SEO](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/seo/) work covers technical fixes, schema markup, content and link building, built around a page for each service you sell and each place you serve.

Service pages follow what people type. Google suggests "slate roof repair st louis" and "clay tile roof repair st louis". More than half of the homes in the City were built before 1940, so a roofer who repairs slate roofs needs a slate page.

Place pages need more care, because some ZIP codes cross the line between the City and the County. The Census Bureau’s ZIP areas 63143 and 63137 take in land on both sides, and people search "63130 st louis city or county". So each page names the municipality, such as Kirkwood, Webster Groves or Florissant, or the City neighborhood. The Grove and Dogtown are not on the City’s official list, but people search both by name, so we use those names too.

- Technical SEO and site audits
- Schema markup
- Content that answers real questions
- Link building
- Pages for each place you serve
- Search Console set up in your name

## Website design and development in St. Louis

We design and build [websites](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/web-development/) on WordPress or Next.js, and custom code where a site needs it, choosing the platform by how much the site needs to grow. We handle redesigns, speed work and maintenance too.

A trade site here should say which license it holds. Missouri’s statewide electrical contractor license is optional. A contractor who works only where it holds a local license, or where none is required, does not need it. So an electrical contractor’s site names the license it holds and where that license applies.

Our [ADA compliance](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/web-development/#ada-compliance) work tests a site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, fixes what fails and tests it again with a keyboard and a screen reader. We never use overlay widgets. It is technical work, not legal advice.

- New websites and redesigns
- WordPress development
- Next.js, React and custom code
- ADA compliance (WCAG 2.2 AA)
- Speed work and maintenance

## AI search, ads, local and social in St. Louis

### AI search

We work to get your business named in Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. That work is called answer engine optimization (AEO) or generative engine optimization (GEO).

Google’s guidance for AI Overviews asks for nothing special. It wants pages it can index and quote in a snippet, content in text form and a Business Profile kept up to date. So we write plain answers to the questions St. Louis customers ask. Is the office in the City or the County? Do you take jobs in Illinois? Who is the collaborating physician at the Clayton location?

### Google and Meta Ads

We run pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns on [Google Ads](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/paid-ads/), and paid social on Facebook and Instagram. We can build TikTok and LinkedIn campaigns when they fit.

Minnesota has a St. Louis County and a St. Louis Park, and Google suggests both when people type "st louis county" or "botox st louis". So a St. Louis campaign carries them as negative keywords.

The Missouri and Illinois sides get separate campaigns, each with its own budget and landing page. An Illinois roofing ad, for example, must carry the roofer’s Illinois license number.

### Local SEO

We handle [local SEO](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/local-seo/) and the Google Business Profile itself: categories, services, hours, photos and a weekly review process.

A Chesterfield business that also serves Belleville cannot open a profile at a virtual office in Illinois. Its profile lists the areas it covers, up to 20, and its Illinois pages do the rest.

Storms test a profile here. In 2025 one tornado ran from Chesterfield to Florissant in March, and another from Clayton through North St. Louis in May. Google draws the line at six days. A closure of up to six days goes in as special hours. Seven days or more, or an unknown length, means marking the profile temporarily closed.

### Social media

We manage [social media](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/social-media/) around the St. Louis calendar. The Thanks-For-Giving Parade comes downtown on November 21, 2026, and the Soulard Mardi Gras Grand Parade follows on February 6, 2027. The Fourth of July fireworks have lit the Gateway Arch since 1981.

Our [brand design](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/brand-design/) work supplies what those posts are built from: the logo, the visual identity, its guidelines and the graphics for posts and ads. A Mardi Gras post and your website then look like the same business.

## How the St. Louis metro splits local search

Local search around St. Louis splits between the City and the County, across the Mississippi into Illinois, and over the Missouri River into St. Charles County. The Census Bureau’s metro is 15 counties: seven in Missouri, counting the City, and eight in Illinois. The map shades the four with the most people: St. Louis County, St. Charles County, the City of St. Louis and Madison County, Illinois.

1. **The City is not in the County.** The City of St. Louis separated from St. Louis County in 1876, and the Census Bureau still counts it as a county of its own. The County counted 88 municipalities in its 2020 report. Around them lies unincorporated land. It includes Oakville, with about 35,000 residents, and Mehlville, with about 30,000, and neither is a city.
2. **A quarter of the metro is in Illinois.** The Mississippi runs between the City and Madison and St. Clair counties, Illinois, and about one in four of the metro’s residents live on the Illinois side. O’Fallon shows why the state matters: it is a city of about 96,000 in Missouri, a city of about 33,000 in Illinois, and a neighborhood in the City of St. Louis. Google suggests "med spa o’fallon il" first.
3. **The Missouri River sets off St. Charles County.** The Missouri River forms St. Charles County’s southern boundary and the Mississippi its northern one. Between 2020 and 2025 the county gained about 21,000 people while the City lost about 23,000. A business that serves the county gives St. Charles, St. Peters, Wentzville and Lake St. Louis a page each.

### St. Louis in numbers

- **2.81M** people in the St. Louis metro, in Missouri and Illinois, by 2025 Census Bureau estimate
- **316,284** people in unincorporated St. Louis County in 2025, more than lived in the City of St. Louis
- **79** neighborhoods in the City of St. Louis, by the City’s own list
- **177** hail reports of an inch or larger logged in 2025 across the City and four nearby counties

## Med spas, roofing, property management and real estate around St. Louis

For med spas and other healthcare providers, the SEO, ads and booking page start with Missouri’s rules. Roofers, property managers and brokerages have Missouri rules of their own, and a roofer who crosses the river answers to Illinois as well.

### Med spa and healthcare SEO

Missouri’s ad rule reaches physician owners, so we check a St. Louis med spa’s SEO, Google Ads and booking pages against it.

Missouri can discipline a physician for false or misleading advertising. The rule also reaches a physician with a financial interest in the business that runs the ad. So a med spa with a physician owner checks its ads against it.

In Missouri, a physician’s collaborative practice arrangement with a nurse must be in writing, as an agreement, protocols or standing orders. Each treatment page can say who performs the treatment and who the collaborating physician is.

Suburb names repeat across the country. Google suggests "med spa clayton nc" before the Missouri Clayton, and "med spa chesterfield va" next to Chesterfield, Missouri. So treatment pages name the suburb and the state together.

- Missouri rule: RSMo 334.100.2(4)(r)
- Also: RSMo 334.104, collaborative practice
- Services: Med spa SEO, Google Ads, booking pages

### Roofing

We put roofing SEO, storm pages and Google Ads live for St. Louis roofers before the March hail, with separate Illinois pages for jobs across the river. In 2025, almost every large-hail report in the City and nearby counties came in March or May. So storm pages belong online before March. On May 16, spotters measured two-inch hail near Defiance and Weldon Spring in St. Charles County.

Across the river, Illinois licenses roofing contractors, and an ad for their work must show the license number and the name on the license. A St. Louis roofer who takes jobs in Belleville or Edwardsville gets separate Illinois pages, and we put the number on those pages and ads.

In Missouri, a homeowner whose insurer says in writing that all or part of a claim is not covered may cancel the roofing contract. The deadline is midnight of the fifth business day after that notice. Contractors also may not advertise that they will pay any part of the deductible. So a Missouri roofer’s pages explain the right to cancel and leave any deductible offer out.

- Missouri rule: RSMo 407.725
- Illinois rule: 225 ILCS 335, roofing license
- Services: Roofing SEO, storm pages, Google Ads

### Property management

On the websites we build for St. Louis property managers, the move-out page gives Missouri’s 30-day deposit rule and owner pages explain the written management agreement. Inside the City of St. Louis, a rental unit needs a Certificate of Inspection before anyone moves in. The City’s page also calls for reinspection every three years or on a change in occupancy, so a manager checks the unit’s certificate before setting a move-in date.

Missouri law counts renting or leasing property for someone else, for pay, as the work of a real estate broker. A licensee may not offer or show a managed unit until the broker holds a written management agreement or other written authorization from the owner. An owner page can explain that step.

When a tenancy ends, a Missouri landlord has 30 days to return the deposit, or to send an itemized list of damages with the balance of the deposit, and a tenant can recover twice any amount wrongfully withheld. We put the 30 days on the move-out page.

- City rule: Ordinance 71835, occupancy inspections
- Missouri rules: RSMo 339.010 and 535.300
- Our build: Property manager’s website

### Real estate

For St. Louis brokerages we build listing and neighborhood pages, then run posts and ads, all carrying the broker’s business name Missouri’s ad rule requires. A Missouri licensee’s ad must carry the broker’s business name and show that the advertiser is a broker, not a private party. If an agent’s own name or phone number appears, the brokerage’s name and phone number appear too.

When an agent sells a home they own and no brokerage has listed it, the ad must say "By owner-agent". A broker or salesperson uses "By owner-broker" or "By owner-salesperson".

Those pages cover the metro from the Central West End to St. Charles.

- Missouri rule: 20 CSR 2250-8.070
- Our client: Real estate agency
- Services: SEO and social media

## How to choose the best digital marketing agency in St. Louis

Whoever you hire for SEO, a website or ads, us included, these five questions show whether they know how the City, the County and the Illinois side differ.

1. **Ask who owns the accounts.** Whoever sets them up, the domain, the Google Ads account, the Business Profile and the analytics should be registered to your business, not to the agency.
2. **Ask them to tell the City from the County.** A plan that treats Soulard, Kirkwood and Oakville as one "St. Louis" has not looked at where your customers live.
3. **Ask a question from each side of the river.** A roofing agency should know what Illinois requires in a roofer’s ad. A property management agency should know about the City’s inspection before move-in.
4. **Ask which St. Louis they would target.** Listen for a state named with every place, since O’Fallon is in both, and for how they keep Minnesota’s St. Louis County out of your campaign.
5. **Check what the reviews name.** The useful ones describe the work itself: a site rebuilt, a profile fixed, a campaign restructured.

## Your St. Louis questions, answered

### Do you have an office in St. Louis?

No. We work remotely, inside accounts you own, from the website and Search Console to the Google Ads account and the Business Profile. You can see every change we make.

### Do you work in St. Louis County and St. Charles County too?

Yes. We plan pages, profiles and ad targeting for the places you actually serve. That might be a City neighborhood such as Soulard or The Hill, a County city such as Chesterfield or Florissant, or St. Charles and O’Fallon, Missouri, across the Missouri River.

### Do you work with businesses on the Illinois side?

Yes. Belleville, Edwardsville and O’Fallon, Illinois get pages and campaigns of their own, written under Illinois rules. For a roofer, that means the Illinois license number on the pages and ads.

### Are Oakville and Mehlville part of St. Louis?

Not of the City. They are unincorporated communities in St. Louis County, with no city government of their own. People still search them by name, so a business that serves them gives each one a page.

### Can you make a St. Louis website ADA compliant?

We can test and fix it. We check the site against WCAG 2.2 at level AA with automated tools, a keyboard and a screen reader, on sites we built and sites we did not. Then we fix what fails, such as low contrast, missing image descriptions, unlabeled form fields, a broken focus order or missing captions, and check again. We do not use overlay widgets. This is technical work, not legal advice, and no one can promise a site will never be sued.

### What are AEO and GEO?

Answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization. When someone asks Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT or Perplexity for a med spa in Clayton or a roofer in St. Charles County, we want your business in the answer. That starts with pages Google can index that answer the question plainly, and a Business Profile kept current.

### When should a St. Louis roofer’s storm pages go live?

Before March. In 2025, almost half of the area’s large-hail reports came in March alone. April and May are wet too, each averaging close to five inches of rain at Lambert airport.
