# Websites for AppFolio Managers

Custom WordPress and Next.js sites, with AppFolio kept as the record

Kihan Marketing builds custom WordPress and Next.js websites for property management companies that run AppFolio. AppFolio stays the system of record for your units, rents, availability and applications. The AppFolio website template becomes a site of your own: a page for every property you manage, pages written for owners, and your open units drawn from AppFolio onto your own domain by AppFolio Listings Pro, the WordPress plugin we wrote.

Many management companies on AppFolio start with the template the platform ships. It shows the portfolio and takes applications. What it rarely does is sell the company to an owner, or give each building a page a renter can find in search. An AppFolio site rebuild turns that template into a site of your own, and AppFolio keeps running your rentals.

## A Seattle property manager: 5 pages to 250+

The proof is a site you can open. A Seattle property manager came to us with the five-page site that came with AppFolio. We rebuilt it to more than 250 pages, a page for every property it manages, checked on the live site in October 2026.

- **A page for every property.** Each one carries that property's open units from AppFolio, with its amenities, features and photos.
- **Listings drawn by the site, not framed.** AppFolio Listings Pro reads the public AppFolio listings and draws them in the site's own design. When a unit leases, it leaves the page on the plugin's next fetch.
- **Calls to action and lead forms, rebuilt.** The calls to action and lead forms were rebuilt, so a renter who lands on any property page can reach the leasing team from that page.

The full story, with the live site in a frame, is on the [project page](https://kihanmarketing.com/projects/pacific-crest-real-estate/).

## AppFolio's own website, or a custom site built around AppFolio

Both keep AppFolio as the system of record. The difference is who controls the pages around the listings.

| What you are comparing | AppFolio's own website | A custom site built around AppFolio |
|---|---|---|
| Design control | The template's layouts, with listing cards, buttons and type largely as the platform ships them | Your design and your layouts, with listing cards in your fonts, colors and button labels |
| SEO | Titles, headings and page structure limited to what the template offers | Titles, headings, structured data and internal links set page by page, so the site has SEO built in |
| A page per property | Often a short site with one listings page | A page for every managed property, and a page for every open unit with Listings Pro |
| Owner lead capture | Built around renters: listings and applications | Owner pages of their own, with forms that reach whoever answers owners |
| How listings stay current | AppFolio draws them itself | Listings Pro reads your public AppFolio listings on the server and refreshes them on a cache you set, in minutes |
| Where renters apply | AppFolio's apply flow | Still AppFolio's apply flow: the Apply Now button carries the listing's own AppFolio link |

If you are still choosing software, our comparisons of [AppFolio vs Buildium](https://kihanmarketing.com/appfolio-vs-buildium/) and [AppFolio vs Yardi](https://kihanmarketing.com/appfolio-vs-yardi/) cover the platforms themselves.

## The AppFolio tools we built

Each one came out of a client job on AppFolio, and each is described here as it works today.

- **AppFolio Listings Pro.** Our WordPress plugin, available to license. It reads your public AppFolio listings on the server, with no iframe and no AppFolio API key, and draws them as your own cards, filters and map. Every unit gets a page on your domain. AppFolio stays the system of record, and the plugin writes nothing back.
- **A chat leasing tool on the AppFolio API.** Our chat leasing tool, built on the AppFolio API, helps the renter who doesn't know which building they want. It pulls neighborhoods, pricing, cities and areas, and shows real active listings with full detail.

Listings Pro runs on the sites of a Seattle property manager and a Western Washington apartment management company, and on the community websites of both. What it does, setting by setting, is on the [AppFolio Listings Pro](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/appfolio-listings-pro/) page. Both tools sit in the same family as Kihan Schema, Kihan Internal Linker and Kihan Indexer, and each one exists because a client job needed it.

## What an AppFolio site rebuild covers

Not every job is a rebuild. When it is one, the shape is fairly consistent.

1. **A page for every managed property.** On your own domain, with its amenities, features, photos and open units.
2. **Listings Pro, set up for your brand.** We set Listings Pro's card template, colors, columns, filters and map to match your brand. Each building gets a Property Group, so each property page shows only its own units.
3. **Owner pages of their own.** What you manage, how you report and how maintenance is handled, written so an owner can judge you before the first call.
4. **Calls to action and lead forms.** Rebuilt across the site, so the default application link isn't doing all the work.
5. **Separate community sites.** Where a portfolio warrants their own domains.

The site can be WordPress, where Listings Pro runs, or Next.js. Listings Pro is a WordPress plugin, so on a Next.js site the listings come through a custom integration instead. The three ways to put listings on a WordPress site are compared in our guide to [showing AppFolio listings on WordPress](https://kihanmarketing.com/guides/appfolio-listings-wordpress/).

## Questions about websites for AppFolio managers

### Can AppFolio stay the system of record?

Yes. Units, rents, availability, photos and applications stay in AppFolio, and your leasing team keeps working there. AppFolio Listings Pro reads the listings AppFolio already publishes and writes nothing back. Renters still apply through AppFolio's own apply flow.

### Will owner leads go to AppFolio?

[Owner leads](https://kihanmarketing.com/glossary/owner-leads/) go wherever you decide, because the owner forms are part of the site we build. We set them to reach whoever answers owners: a named person, a shared inbox or the CRM your team uses. Renter applications are different. The Apply Now button on each listing carries the listing's own AppFolio link, so applications reach AppFolio as they do today.

### How long does a rebuild take?

It depends on how many properties need a page, how much owner content has to be written and how many community sites there are, so we give a timeline after looking at your portfolio, not before. Adding Listings Pro to a WordPress site you already have is the short part: install the plugin, enter the license key and your AppFolio address, choose a template and place the shortcode.

### How do listings stay current?

AppFolio stays the source. Listings Pro fetches your public listings on the server and caches them for a number of minutes you set, so a change in AppFolio shows on the plugin's next fetch. When a unit leases, it leaves your site on that fetch. If AppFolio doesn't answer, the last good copy stays up instead of an error.
