# RentCafe and Yardi Websites

Custom sites that keep Yardi as the system of record

A RentCafe website is the property or corporate website that Yardi builds for a management company on its RentCafe platform. Kihan Marketing rebuilds those sites as custom WordPress or Next.js sites. Each has a page for every managed property and pages written for owners. Yardi stays the system of record for units, rents, open dates and applications. The new site draws what it needs from Yardi. This page explains what a RentCafe website does, what it leaves out, and how a Yardi website integration works.

If you manage on Yardi Voyager or Yardi Breeze, you can keep your software and still have a site that ranks. The software keeps running leasing. The website gets its own design, its own structure and its own pages for search.

## What is a RentCafe website?

A RentCafe website is a site for a property or a management company, built on RentCafe, the online marketing platform from Yardi. Yardi says these sites can be community sites, corporate sites or both. They start from a theme or a custom design. They sit on Yardi's platform and connect to Yardi's software for listings and leads.

## What do RentCafe website templates do, and what do they leave out?

RentCafe website templates give a property a working site without a web project. Yardi says you can add your own photos, colors and widgets to a theme. It says photos, pricing and open units pull from the software. The sites also carry applications and lead forms, which connect back to Yardi.

What a template rarely gives you is control over structure. The layout, page types and URLs follow the platform, so you work inside them.

- **A page for every property.** A template site often shows each community as one page. A renter searching a building's name needs a page that is about that building.
- **Owner pages.** Owners hire a management company. A template built around renters gives them little to read before they call.
- **Search structure.** Titles, headings, structured data and internal links are easiest to set page by page on a site you control.
- **Your own page types.** Neighborhood pages, service pages and guides need a place to live that the template does not provide.

If your template site already brings in leads, keep it. The rebuild is for companies that need owners and renters to find them in search. Kihan Marketing rebuilds the website templates that RentCafe, [AppFolio](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/appfolio-property-management-websites/) and ShowMojo ship, and the job is the same each time: your design, your pages, your software left in charge of the rentals.

## How does a Yardi website integration work?

A Yardi website integration lets a custom site show Yardi's unit data without keeping a second copy by hand. Yardi controls access to that data, so the route depends on what Yardi enables for your account. Three routes appear in Yardi's own pages and in integrators' guides.

1. **The RentCafe API.** Yardi announced a RentCafe API program, called APIv2, in October 2023. Integration vendors describe it as covering availability, pricing, leads and tours, with access granted through Yardi's partner program.
2. **The Voyager ILS and guest card interface.** Yardi says vendors on this interface can receive unit availability, pricing, floor plan and amenity data from Voyager for their websites. Apartments.com's help pages show the same feed carrying fees under the MITS 5.0 data model.
3. **A feed through a vendor you already use.** Some Yardi clients already pay a vendor that receives their data. A website can sometimes draw from that vendor instead of from Yardi directly.

Each route sits behind a Yardi agreement or a setting that only your Yardi admin can change. Integrators report that Yardi expects vendors to work under an API access agreement. One vendor says it pulls open units from Yardi every hour.

Kihan Marketing builds the website side of these routes. We do not sell Yardi access. We do not change what Yardi licenses to you. We confirm which route your account can use, then build the site around it.

## How can a custom site keep Yardi as the system of record?

A custom site keeps Yardi as the system of record by never becoming a second source of truth. The site reads units, rents and availability from Yardi on a schedule and draws them in its own design. Leasing staff keep working in Voyager or Breeze as they do today. Nothing is written back from the website unless you ask for it.

In practice that means four things stay in Yardi:

- Unit status, rent and move-in dates.
- Applications and the applicant's path through Yardi's own leasing flow.
- Resident payments and maintenance requests, through Yardi's resident portal.
- Lead records, which Yardi says RentCafe sends into Voyager as guest cards.

The website holds what Yardi does not: property stories, neighborhood copy, owner pages, photos and structured data.

## What does a RentCafe website rebuild cover?

A RentCafe website rebuild replaces the template site with a custom one on your own domain, with Yardi still running the rentals. The scope is usually five parts, and not every job needs all of them.

1. **A page for every managed property.** Each has its amenities, features, photos and open units.
2. **Listings drawn from Yardi.** Through whichever route your account supports, cached on a schedule you set so a leased unit leaves the page.
3. **Owner pages.** What you manage, how you report and how maintenance is handled, written so an owner can judge you before the first call.
4. **Calls to action and lead forms.** Rebuilt so a renter on any property page reaches the leasing team from that page, and so leads reach whoever answers them.
5. **Search groundwork.** Titles, headings, structured data and redirects from the old addresses, so the move does not lose what the old site earned.

The site can be WordPress or Next.js. Our WordPress plugin for listings, [AppFolio Listings Pro](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/appfolio-listings-pro/), is built for AppFolio only, so a Yardi site gets its own integration instead.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you integrate my website with Yardi?

Yes. Kihan Marketing can integrate a website with the listings in Yardi Voyager, Yardi Breeze or RentCafe. The route depends on what Yardi enables for your account, such as the RentCafe API or the Voyager interface. We check which route you can use first, then build the site around it.

### What is the difference between Yardi and RentCafe?

Yardi is the software company, and Voyager and Breeze are its property management systems. RentCafe is Yardi's online marketing and leasing platform, which includes websites, listing syndication, online applications and resident tools. A RentCafe website draws its data from the system your company runs.

### Do I need a Yardi API key to use a custom website?

Usually you need some form of access that Yardi approves. That may be the RentCafe API, the Voyager listing interface or a feed from a vendor you already use. Yardi controls each one, so ask your Yardi representative which your account includes. Kihan Marketing works with whichever route is open.

### Will leasing staff have to change how they work?

No. Leasing staff keep working in Yardi. Units, rents, open dates and applications stay there. The website reads from Yardi and shows the result. The only change is that your public pages look the way you designed them.

### Does a custom site replace RentCafe?

Not necessarily. RentCafe also syndicates listings, runs online applications and supports resident services. You can keep those and replace only the website. Which parts you keep depends on your Yardi contract. So we confirm what your account includes before we plan the build.

### Can you rebuild a RentCafe website without losing search rankings?

We plan for it. A rebuild keeps the addresses that earn traffic where possible. It redirects the ones that change and carries over titles that work. Then we check Search Console after launch. No rebuild can promise rankings, but a careful move avoids the avoidable losses.

For the other platforms we integrate with, see [property management software website integrations](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/property-management-software-integrations/). The same rebuild on AppFolio is described in [websites for AppFolio managers](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/appfolio-property-management-websites/), and the wider job is in [property management website design](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/property-management-website-design/).
