# Brand Design and Identity

One look on your website, your ads, your posts and in print

Kihan Marketing offers branding services for local businesses: roofers, dentists, med spas, law firms, home service companies, real estate agents and property managers. That covers logos, brand identity, flyers, brochures, business cards and packaging. It also covers the graphics on your social posts and ads.

Most of our design work happens next to a [website build](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/web-development/) or a [campaign](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/paid-ads/). When we build your site or run your ads, someone has to decide how it all looks. And it has to look like one business everywhere a customer sees it: on your site, in a feed, on a flyer and on the side of a van. Your logo shows on Google too. [Google's Business Profile help](https://support.google.com/business/answer/6103862?hl=en) says a logo helps customers recognize your business there.

## What you can ask us for

These are the design services we offer. Each one can stand alone or come as part of a larger job.

- **Logo design and brand identity.** A logo, a set of colors and a typeface. We choose them to work at the size of a browser tab and the size of a sign. That tab icon also shows next to your site in Google. [Google's favicon guidelines](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/favicon-in-search) say it must be square, and recommend making it larger than 48 by 48 pixels.
- **Brand guidelines.** The rules written down. Then the next person who makes something for you gets it right without having to ask.
- **Print.** Flyers, brochures, business cards and packaging.
- **Social and ad graphics.** Posts and ads designed for your business, not pulled from a stock template. See [social media management](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/social-media/).
- **Website design.** We design the website as part of the same brand system, because the site is usually where a brand gets used hardest.

The logos in our portfolio were made for a pharmacy, a cargo forwarder, a farming business and several food brands. The flyers include apartment open houses and introductions to a property management team. Najma Khan is our graphic designer. You can meet the whole team on our [about page](https://kihanmarketing.com/about/).

## Design work by industry

Each industry asks something different of a brand. Here is how we approach each one.

### Roofing

For roofers, we design and build the website, and we design the social and ad graphics too. The look has to hold as the site grows. We can also build a video library into the site, with browsing, categories and a player, so a roofer's videos play on its own domain. ### Med spa and wellness

For med spas and wellness businesses, we can replace a basic site with a full website and a booking page. We also design the social graphics for each treatment. More in [med spa marketing](https://kihanmarketing.com/med-spa-marketing/).

### Real estate

For real estate agents and brokers, we design and build the website. The advice and ideas behind a site can shape the brand as well as the pages. More in [real estate marketing](https://kihanmarketing.com/real-estate-marketing/).

### Property management and multifamily

Multifamily branding has a problem many businesses never face. One company runs many communities. Each needs its own website that still looks like part of the same family.

[A Western Washington apartment management company](https://kihanmarketing.com/projects/olympic-multifamily-management/) is where this shows most plainly. We rebuilt the corporate site, which was a simple property management website out of Fife. It is now live. Under it sit the [community websites](https://kihanmarketing.com/multifamily-marketing/multifamily-website-design/), from Vancouver, WA and Olympia to Poulsbo.

- **Three words that settle arguments.** The agreed design direction is minimalism, professional, expert. Past a handful of sites, you stop making decisions one at a time and start making rules. Those three words are the rules in short.
- **Related without being identical.** Each community has its own name, photos, floor plans and town. Picture someone looking at a community in Bremerton, then at one in Olympia. They should be able to tell, without being told, that the same company runs both.

The same question came up on the community sites for [a Seattle property manager](https://kihanmarketing.com/projects/pacific-crest-real-estate/). What has to stay fixed, and what can change for each property? That is what property management branding comes down to. More in [property management marketing](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/).

### Dental, law firms and home services

For these three, here is how we approach the design.

- **Dental practices.** A calm, clean look that makes a nervous patient feel safe booking. We carry it from the website to the appointment card. More in [dental marketing](https://kihanmarketing.com/dental-marketing/).
- **Law firms.** A serious, readable identity that works on a letterhead as well as on a phone screen. More in [law firm marketing](https://kihanmarketing.com/law-firm-marketing/).
- **Home services.** Home services brand design needs a look that still reads on a truck, a yard sign and a uniform. People see those from across the street. More in [home services marketing](https://kihanmarketing.com/home-services-marketing/).

## How we keep a brand consistent

What we hand over is a set of decisions specific enough that the next person can follow them without calling us. They cover how big the headings get and how much space a photo is given. They say which colors are for buttons and which are for backgrounds. Those pairs have to be readable. [WCAG 2.2](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#contrast-minimum), the W3C's accessibility standard, asks for a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 for normal text at level AA. The rules also say what a page does when one location has six services and another has two. None of it is exciting to read about. All of it is why a brand still looks like itself a year later, on a page or a post someone else made.

## Questions businesses ask about branding

### What do branding services include?

Branding services usually include a logo, a set of colors, typefaces and brand guidelines that write the rules down. Ours also cover print, such as flyers, brochures, business cards and packaging, plus social and ad graphics and website design. Each piece can stand alone or come as part of a larger website or campaign job.

### How much do branding services cost?

The cost of branding services depends on how many pieces you need and where they will be used. A logo alone is a smaller job than full brand design services with guidelines, print, social graphics and a website. Our [pricing](https://kihanmarketing.com/pricing/) page explains what changes the scope. Or tell us what you need designed, and where.

### How much does a logo cost for a small business?

The cost of a small business logo depends on what comes with it. A mark on its own is a smaller job than a logo with colors, typefaces and rules for using them. The logo also has to hold up from a browser tab to a sign. Our [pricing](https://kihanmarketing.com/pricing/) page explains what moves the scope of design work.

### How much do brand guidelines cost?

The cost of brand guidelines depends on how much they have to govern. A website and a business card need a short set of rules. A company running many community websites needs rules that keep each site related without being identical. Either way, good guidelines let the next designer get it right without having to ask.
