# Website Development

Kihan Marketing offers web development services for businesses that have outgrown the site they have. We design and build sites on WordPress and Next.js. When a platform can't do what the site needs, we write custom code.

Most of what we build is a rebuild of a site that already exists, such as a Western Washington apartment management company's corporate site, now live. Two of our rebuilds grew to more than 250 pages each, one from 5 pages and one from roughly 50. That wasn't because we like big sites. People were already searching for many separate things, and each old site had one page trying to answer all of them.

## A Seattle property manager's rebuild: 5 pages to 250+

This property management company had a five page site, built on AppFolio's website template. The rentals existed, but no building had a page of its own.

- **A page per managed property.** A 250+ page website where every managed property has its own page. Each page carries that property's amenities, features and photos. We also rebuilt the calls to action and lead capture forms across the site.

The full build is on the [project page](https://kihanmarketing.com/projects/pacific-crest-real-estate/), with the [community sites](https://kihanmarketing.com/multifamily-marketing/multifamily-website-design/) we assisted on. For how a template site rebuild works, see [property management website design](https://kihanmarketing.com/property-management-marketing/property-management-website-design/).

## An Austin roofing company: roughly 50 pages to 250+, including a video library

The company is a roofing contractor in Manchaca and the [Greater Austin](https://kihanmarketing.com/locations/austin/) area. We started with SEO for one location. The work grew town by town around Austin, then to the whole metro with a full website build. The site went from roughly 50 pages to 250+. What those pages are matters more than how many there are.

- **Location pages written against the area.** Each page is written about what is really true of that town. It is not one template with the city name changed. That is the difference between a page that answers a local search and a page that only contains the town's name.
- **30+ project pages.** Completed roofing jobs: a real roof, on a real street, with the materials used and the problem that was fixed.
- **The Knowledge Center.** The Knowledge Center is a roofing video library built inside the roofer's website, holding 200+ videos. It keeps visitors on the site, instead of sending them to a platform that then keeps them. The videos also become written roofing posts. So one recorded job feeds both the video library and the written content. The written version is the part search engines and AI assistants can read and quote.

We used our own tools on this build: Kihan Indexer, Kihan Schema, the Kihan SEO plugin and Kihan Internal Linker. AI citation work was part of the job. In the site's own Google Search Console, organic clicks more than doubled from July to September 2026 against the same days in 2025, from 1,076 to 2,203. In the 12 months to August 2026, it recorded 1,244,708 search impressions. That volume is the case for the page count. A 50-page site was never going to show up for them.

## A cryotherapy studio near Seattle: a new site with online booking

For a cryotherapy studio in Renton, Washington, we built a new website with online booking. The studio was stuck on page two of Google. The site needed more pages and more depth than its setup was giving it.

- **Booking on Amelia.** The change to how the business runs. Amelia handles scheduling inside WordPress. So the visitor books on the page they landed on, not on a separate booking site. That means fewer places to lose someone, and one less handoff between the ad, the page and the calendar.
- **Hyper-local location pages.** People search for a cryotherapy studio by treatment and by neighborhood. The old site had one page trying to answer all of it.
- **Everything around the site.** We also run the AI citation work, the Google Ads and Meta ads, and the Google Business Profile and Yelp business page.

## Why the page count grew

All three of those builds got much bigger, and that's the part clients ask about. Page count is a consequence, not a goal. It follows from how many truly different things people search for in a category.

- **The demand arrives already split.** People search for a roofer across Greater Austin by service and by area. They search for a cryotherapy studio by treatment and by neighborhood. They search for a property manager by building name, by neighborhood and by unit type. One page aimed at all of that can't answer any single search well enough to win it.
- **The test before a page gets built.** Can we say something on it that is specific, true, and not true of any other page on the site? A property page passes because it carries real amenities and photos that exist only for that building. A location page passes when it's written about what the area is really like. A project page passes because the roof exists.
- **Padding competes with the pages that would have ranked.** Padding is what you get when the answer is no and the page gets built anyway. Pages like that don't just fail to rank. They compete with the pages that would have.

So these sites grew because the pages people searched for were missing, not because more pages are better. Where the demand isn't segmented, we don't segment the site.

## What we build on: WordPress and Next.js

WordPress is our main platform, and it isn't the answer to everything.

- **WordPress.** Custom themes, plus plugins when the software a business runs on won't give the site what it needs. Our internal linker and schema tools let us build many well-structured SEO pages without making each one by hand.
- **Custom development.** API connections, tools built on the systems a business already uses, and features that ready-made plugins don't cover.
- **Next.js and React.** Next.js and React are the right call when a site needs to be fast and static, with no pile of plugins. This site runs on them.

Website redesigns are a lot of what comes to us, like the cryotherapy studio's rebuild above. We also build new real estate sites. These can start as one landing page for a development, then widen into guide, hub and near-me pages. And we rebuild corporate sites while the community websites around them stay live.

Speed and maintenance carry on after launch. [Google's page on Core Web Vitals](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/core-web-vitals) recommends good scores for success in Search. These measure loading, how fast a page responds, and whether it stays still as it loads. Speed work starts with the pages that bring in leads, checked on a phone. What slows them is usually oversized images, plugins the site no longer needs, or scripts that load before the content. We fix those and measure again.

## ADA compliance

ADA compliance work means testing and fixing a site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. WCAG is a widely used accessibility standard. [The W3C's WCAG overview](https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/wcag/) says WCAG 2.2 was published on October 5, 2023. Its success criteria sit at three levels: A, AA and AAA. [The Justice Department's guidance on web accessibility](https://www.ada.gov/resources/web-guidance/) says the Department's position is that the ADA covers what businesses open to the public offer on the web. We do the same work on sites we did not build.

- **Test.** Testing means going through the site with only a keyboard and with a screen reader, plus automated checks on every template. [The W3C's advice on evaluation tools](https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/tools/selecting/) says tools can't check everything, and human judgment is required.
- **Fix.** Color contrast, image descriptions, headings, form labels, focus order, captions on video, and anything else that fails.
- **Test again.** Testing again means checking every fix the same way before it goes live. New pages get checked as they are added.

We do not use overlay widgets. These are scripts that claim to fix accessibility on top of a site, but the code underneath stays the same. This is technical work, not legal advice. No one can promise a site will never be sued, and we won't.

## Questions businesses ask about a new website

### What are web development services?

Web development services cover planning, building and looking after a website. For us that means the design, the build on WordPress, Next.js or custom code, and tools like booking pages and listing pages. It also covers speed, accessibility testing and maintenance after launch, so the site keeps working as the business grows.

### How much does a custom website cost?

The cost of a custom website depends on what the site has to do. The number of pages, the platform, custom tools such as booking or listing features, and whether [content must be written](https://kihanmarketing.com/services/content-marketing/) all move it. Ask any website development company what its quote covers. Our [pricing](https://kihanmarketing.com/pricing/) page explains what changes the scope for us.

### How long does it take to build a website for a small business?

The time it takes to build a small business website depends on the page count, the content and the features. A design-led site with a fixed set of pages moves faster than a 250 page rebuild with a page per property. Content is often the slow part, because every page needs something true and specific to say.

### Which platform should a small business website use?

WordPress suits many small business websites that will keep adding pages, such as services, locations or projects. Webflow and Framer fit a design-led site with a fixed page count. Shopify is built for online stores. Next.js suits a fast, static site with no pile of plugins. The right platform depends on how much content you plan to add.

### Will a website redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It can, if pages that rank vanish or change address without a redirect. Before launch, list every page that gets search traffic or links. Each one should keep its address or redirect to the page that replaces it. [Google's guide to site moves](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/site-move-with-url-changes) recommends permanent server-side redirects from old URLs to new ones. It also says rankings can move around for a while as Google recrawls the site.
