Metro Detroit search splits by municipality, not by city alone: townships rival cities in size, and names like Warren and Canton repeat in other states. The metro is six counties, and most of its people live in three: Wayne, Oakland and Macomb. The Detroit River and Lake St. Clair form the east side of Wayne and Macomb counties, with Ontario across the water.

  1. Detroit is one city of many. The City of Detroit holds a little more than a third of Wayne County’s residents, and the county has 43 cities and townships in all. Even Hamtramck, almost entirely surrounded by Detroit, is a city of its own. Google’s local results weigh how far a business is from the searcher, so a Detroit address alone may not carry a business into a Dearborn search.
  2. Townships the size of cities. Michigan townships are governments of their own, and several are larger than well-known cities nearby. Canton Township in Wayne County and Macomb Township each have more residents than Livonia or Troy. People search by the township’s name, as in property management Clinton Township MI.
  3. Names shared with other states. Warren, Canton and Rochester are also places in Ohio, New York and elsewhere. Google’s suggestions for roofing in Canton list Canton, Ohio, and Canton, Georgia, before Canton, Michigan. Even a search for Detroit can drift to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Pages and profiles should name Michigan, or the county, with the place.

    Michigan’s Public Health Code lets a licensed practitioner delegate tasks to a qualified person working under supervision.     For Metro Detroit roofers, we build roofing SEO, storm and leak pages and Google Ads that carry the license number and business address Michigan requires. Wayne County has had federal disaster declarations for storms and flooding that began in August 2014, June 2021 and August 2023. In June 2021 the National Weather Service reported 3 to 5 inches of rain across Metro Detroit, and 6 to 8 in places. Pages for roof leaks and wet basements should already rank in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb when the next storm comes through.

    In Michigan, roofing is a trade under the residential maintenance and alteration contractor license, as are siding and gutters and basement waterproofing. Every ad must carry the licensee’s name, license number and actual business address as shown on the license. A phone number or post office box alone is not allowed.

    The same rule bars a contractor from seeking a home improvement job by promising the homeowner cash or merchandise for showing the house to others, or for orders the contractor gets from other people. So a refer-a-neighbor bonus should not be part of the sales pitch. A licensed contractor must also keep a place of business in Michigan.

    We build property manager websites and listings for Detroit that carry the City’s required rental notice and walk owners through the certificate of compliance. Since January 1, 2025, Detroit’s rental ordinance has required every ad or solicitation for a rental to carry a set notice. It tells readers that owners must register with the City and pass an inspection, and that tenants in non-compliant properties can pay rent into escrow. Listings, the website and paid ads all need it.

    Every Detroit rental needs a certificate of compliance, issued after a 15-point inspection. The ordinance makes it unlawful for an owner or its agent to collect rent without one, and the City says tickets can go to management companies too. An owner page that walks through the steps is worth having.

    Michigan caps a security deposit at one and a half months’ rent. A landlord who claims damages must mail the tenant an itemized list within 30 days after the tenant moves out. Managing rentals for others for a fee is also real estate brokerage under Michigan law, so the advertising rules on the next card apply.

    Our real estate work in Metro Detroit is listing and community pages, posts and ads, each giving the broker’s name as Michigan requires. In Michigan, a broker’s ad must give the broker’s name, a phone number or street address, and a statement that the advertiser is a real estate broker.

    When an ad names an agent or a team, the employing broker’s name must appear in type at least as large as theirs, a rule in force since January 1, 2018. We build it into team pages, post templates and ads from the start.
