What you get back
Most free SEO audits are software output. You paste in a web address and a crawler, a program that scans the site, runs. Back comes a stack of warnings graded red, yellow and green. It'll tell you some images are missing alt text. It won't tell you which search a customer types before they call you.
Ours answers a narrower question. Which searches are already working for you? Which ones are one page away from working? And what's stopping that second group? Four things come back.
A ranking list
Every term your site currently appears for in Google, with its position. These are not estimated positions from a third-party tool. They are real positions from Google Search Console, Google's own record of your site in search, where you can grant access. Where you can't, we use live checks.
A technical read of the site
Page speed, crawl errors, index status, duplicate meta descriptions, orphaned pages that nothing links to, and schema markup. This is the standard website audit. We treat it as a supporting document, not the headline.
Your Google Business Profile state
Categories, service areas, photo count, review response rate and post activity. We also check whether your profile actually appears in the map pack for the searches you care about. For a local business, this usually matters more than anything on the website.
A competitor comparison
Three competitors and the terms they rank for that you don't. Then an honest view of which of those terms are worth chasing.
The part that actually matters
The band between roughly position 15 and position 40 is where the work pays. Google knows those pages exist and has decided they're relevant. They're just not relevant enough to show on page one.
Panama Elite Homes: the profile we hunt for
Its website recorded 111,133 search impressions, the times it showed up in results, at an average position of 17.0 over 12 months. Compare the most recent six months with the six months just before. Average position went from 29.4 to 16.6, and organic clicks went from 88 to 695. Of the 783 clicks across the full 12 months, 695 came in the second half. Google was already showing the site. It was showing it too low to be clicked. The searches didn't change and the business didn't change. The placement did.
Driftwood Builders Roofing
Driftwood in Manchaca, Texas came to us with an average Google position of 48. Measured over 90 days against the same period the year before, that average moved to 20. The site had 3,147 keywords in Google's top 10, and organic clicks were up 25 percent year over year. Position 48 is invisible, and position 20 is page two. Neither number is a win on its own, but the direction is what the audit measures. Over the full 12 months, the scale shows up too: 1,244,708 search impressions at an average position of 21.9, producing only 4,169 clicks. That's what page three does to a large volume of demand. The searches exist and the site appears for them, but almost nothing arrives. Impressions aren't a result. They're the raw material, and position is what converts them.
Two cautions we'll put in writing.
Average position can get worse while clicks climb
It happens when a site starts ranking for many more searches at once. The new terms start deep in the results and drag the average down, even as total clicks rise. When we hand you the ranking list, we'll tell you which of the two is happening on your site. We won't just quote whichever number reads better.
Some sites don't have that band at all
A brand new domain with a handful of pages has no positions to improve. The honest answer there is that you need pages before you need optimization.

Impressions aren't a result. They're the raw material, and position is what converts them.
How the audit is run
We run it by hand, using the same tools we use on client work.
Search Console
For real position and impression data.
Ubersuggest
For how often terms are searched, and which terms competitors cover.
Kihan Schema
Our own tooling, for the structured data checks that are slow to do by hand.
Kihan Internal Linker
For how the pages across the site link to each other.
That tooling exists because of the work. AppFolio's website product caps most sites at a handful of pages. When we rebuild a property management site past 250 pages, checking schema and internal links by hand stops being possible. So we built the plugins. The audit uses the same instruments. A person reads the output and writes the summary. There's no template with your business name dropped into it.

What we will not do
Three things, so you know what you're not getting.
A score out of 100
Those numbers come from whichever tool produced them. They mean nothing outside that tool.
A content quota
We won't tell you that you need 40 blog posts a month. Most businesses don't.
A claim to know your industry when we don't
We have first-hand ranking work in property management and multifamily, real estate, roofing, and med spa and wellness. In those fields we can tell you what normally happens, because we've watched it happen. Outside them, we can still run the audit and read the data correctly. But we'll say so.
Google was already showing the site. It was showing it too low to be clicked.
Who this is useful for
The audit is most useful if your site has been live for a year or more and gets some traffic from search. It helps most when you suspect the site should be doing better than it is.
A site that's a year old, with traffic
That's where we find real openings, not a list of things to build from scratch.
A second read on the agency you're paying
We'll look at the Search Console data and tell you whether the trend is up. It's not a comfortable conversation for anyone involved. But it's a fair question, and the data answers it.
Less useful if
Your site launched last month. Or your business runs entirely on referrals and you don't plan to compete in search.
Questions businesses ask about a marketing audit
What does a marketing audit include?
Our marketing audit includes four parts. A ranking list shows every search term your site appears for, with its position. A technical read covers the site itself. A profile check covers your Google Business Profile. A comparison shows three competitors. The positions come from Google Search Console where you grant access, and from live checks where you don't.
How much does a marketing audit cost?
The Kihan Marketing audit is free. A digital marketing audit elsewhere can be paid or free, and free ones are often automated crawler output. Ours is run by hand. A person reads your Search Console data and the output of our own tools. It ends with a short list of the positions worth moving.
What does a marketing audit look like?
Our marketing audit looks like a short list of search terms with your current position next to each one, not a scored PDF. It marks the terms sitting between roughly position 15 and position 40, because those are close enough to move. The technical findings, profile check and competitor comparison come with it as supporting detail.
Why is a marketing audit important?
A marketing audit is important because it shows which searches already work and which are close, before any budget goes into new pages or ads. Without one, it is easy to spend on pages that were never going to move. An audit also gives a second read on whether an agency you already pay is moving your positions up.
What should a marketing audit accomplish?
A marketing audit should end with an ordered list of what to fix, and what each fix is likely to move. It should name the searches worth chasing and the ones that are not. A score out of 100 or a quota of blog posts is not an outcome. Neither tells you which search a customer types before calling.
How to request one
Call (425) 954-3452, email info@kihanmarketing.com, or send it through the contact page. Tell us your web address and the two or three searches you most want to win. Those searches shape what we look at first.
If you can grant read access to Google Search Console and your Google Business Profile, the audit is much more accurate. That's because we're reading your real data instead of guessing from outside. If you can't, or would rather not, we can still run it. We'll note where the numbers are estimates.
